FORGET ABOUT FLORIDA:
The Swamp Rabbits fell to the Florida Everblades 6-5 in overtime on Sunday afternoon. This high scoring bout saw four total goals in the first period, Alex Aleardi and Dylan Vander Esche for Florida, and Brett Kemp and Ayden Macdonald for the Swamp Rabbits. The second period followed suit, as Liam Pecararo and Justin Nachbaur scored to give the bits a 4-2 lead. The Everblades struck back, tying the game before the end of the period; thanks to 2 Vander Esche goals. Jake Jaremko and Liam Pecararo both scored in the third period sending it to overtime, tied at 5-5. Thomas Vomacka made an amazing diving save in OT, denying the Swamp Rabbits a win before Aleadri marched down the ice, scoring the game winner for Florida.
SCOUTING THE ADMIRALS:
The Bits will face the 14-19-2-2 Norfolk Admirals on home ice Friday night. Norfolk has won just three of the last 10 games. Alex Tonge is the leading scorer with 30 points in 32 games (15g, 15a). Dylan Wells has been the primary netminder for the Admirals. Wells holds a 8-6-1 record in 17 games, 3.49 GAA and .898 SV%.
“PEC” YOUR POISON:
Liam Pecararo currently holds the longest point streak in the ECHL (16 games). In those 16 games, Pecararo has recorded 15 goals and 13 assists. Pec’s streak has been interrupted a couple times, as he has played four games with the Charlotte Checkers and five games with the Hartford Wolfpack. This season in the ECHL, Pecararo has scored 32 points (17g, 15a).
BIASED TOWARD BRETT:
Swamp Rabbits forward Brett Kemp has been electric on the ice in recent games. Kemp was given the ECHL Player of the Week honors last week when he recorded nine points in four games (3G, 6A). In just 17 games this season, Kemp is the second leading scorer on the Swamp Rabbits roster, scoring nine goals and 13 assists in that span.
“DARTS”ING ONTO THE SCENE:
Earlier this week, the Rabbits signed former Brock University Badger D’Artagnan Joly. The 22 year old completes a Three Musketeers connection of former Badgers now in Greenville, joining former linemate Ayden MacDonald and Connor Russell. Joly’s connection to his new squad doesn’t stop there, as he played with fellow Rabbit Bradley Lalonde during the 2017-2018 season in the QMJHL. 2017 was a year to remember for Joly, as he heard his name called in the sixth round (Pick 171) of the NAHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.
WHAT ON TAP:
The Rabbits host the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday. The Rays hold a 14-22-4 record and have been outscored 132-94 in games this season. Justin Florek is the leading scorer, netting 25 points in 38 games ( 12G, 13A). Florek had his three game point streak snapped on Sunday against the Norfolk Admirals.
