QUICK BITS

SUNDAY SHOW:

The Swamp Rabbits fell 3-2 Sunday afternoon in a 60 minute war with the Atlanta Gladiators. Brett Kemp scored the game’s first goal, getting things started at the 15:01 mark in the first period. The second period was the definition of back and forth. Tim Davison kept the Gladiators in it, scoring the game tying goal at 1:43 of the second. Anthony Rinaldi gave the Swamp Rabbits another lead at 9:45  which was quickly negated by Gabe Guertler at 16:39. It was back to square one with a tie score going into the third period. Despite the Swamp Rabbits unloading pucks on the Atlanta net, the momentum fell in favor of the Gladiators who, thanks to Kameron Kielly, scored the game winning goal with 11:41 left to play.

SCOUTING THE BLADES:

The Swamp Rabbits will host the first place Florida Everblades for two games on Friday and Saturday. Florida holds an 18-8-3-3 record, outscoring opponents 113-80 while averaging 3.53 goals per game. Parker Gahagen got the start in net, last weekend, against the Stingrays, Gahagen holds a 6-2-1-1 record with a 2.32 GAA and .908 SV%.

FEELIN’ THE BURN:

Defenseman Josh Burnside has found himself as one of the hottest hands in the Navy and Orange. The blue-liner has managed to total 3 assists in his last four games and has landed a spot as the point-man on the top power-play unit for the Rabbits. Since joining the Rabbits in mid-December, Burnside has tallied four instances of assisting on goals.

“EASTMAN” BOUND AND DOWN:

Newcomer Austin Eastman will look to make a name for himself in front of the home crowd for the first time this weekend. The former Ontario Tech RidgeBack racked up 10 points (2g, 8a) in 9 games for the USports side this season.

TONY TIME:

Forward Anthony Rinaldi has had his fair share of ups and downs this season, appearing in just 14 games for the Rabbits. Despite an earlier stay on the IR, Rinaldi has found a rhythm over the last three games. In the three-game weekend against Atlanta, Rinaldi recorded 2 goals and 2 assists and a multi-point night on Sunday at home. The second-year Rabbit now has 9 points in 14 games, nearly eclipsing the 13 point mark he set through 43 games with Greenville last season.
