SATURDAY SHOWDOWN:
The Swamp Rabbits fell to the South Carolina Stingrays in a shootout, 4-3 on Saturday night. Justin Florek started off the scoring at 8:10 in the first, the only goal of the period. The Bits would negate that lead in the second period as Bryce Reddick slapped a one time shot into the Rays goal at the 8:25 mark. The Stingrays did not wait long to reestablish their lead scoring two before the period would end, both thanks to Lawton Courtnall. Jackson Leef’s first goal of the season came 1:41 into the third period, as Diego Cuglietta found him in tight with a great pass in the slot. Quin Foreman followed that up, tipping an Ethan Cap shot on goal to tie the game deep into regulation; leaving just 6:35 on the clock. For the third game in a row the Bits and Rays headed to overtime, but that would not be enough to decide the game. Jordan Subban and Andrew Cherniwchan scored shootout goals, lifting the Stingrays over the Swamp Rabbits in the second of three games this weekend.
COOL AS A CUGLIETTA:
Diego Cuglietta has done nothing but dazzle in his time with Greenville. Cuglietta has 12 points (6G, 7A) in eight games since joining the team November 9th. Of those eight games Cuglietta has a point or more in seven. Cuglietta has two goals and four assists in the last three games, all coming against the Stingrays.
FIRST GOAL FEELS:
Two Swamp Rabbits recorded their first goal of the season on Friday night in North Charleston. Defenseman Bryce Reddick scored on a one timer in the second period. Forward Jackson Leef also scored his first of the season, tipping a Diego Cuglietta pass past Stingrays goalie Ryan Bednard early in the third. Reddick has one goal and three assists in 15 games this season, while Leef has one goal and two assists since joining the Swamp Rabbits.
CLUTCH CAP:
Defenseman Ethan Cap seems to have the Stingrays number. Cap had a game tying assist in the third period on Saturday night, and a game winning assist in overtime on Friday night. Additionally, Cap recorded an assist against the Rays at home on 11/19, three of his four points this season have come in games against the in-state rival.
