QUICK BITS
FLIPPING THE SCRIPT:
The Swamp Rabbits met with in-state rival the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday in the second game of the home opening weekend. After a 2-1 defeat to Jacksonville the night before, the Swamp Rabbits looked to rebound and earn their first win of the season. Karch Bachman gave the Swamp Rabbits thier first 1st period lead of the season with a power play goal with 2.8 seconds left in the period. Greenville captured a 2-0 advantage with Bobby Russell’s first career goal that came in the second period before Justin Florek put the Stingrays on the boad at 16:06 into the frame. An early 3rd period goal by Victor Hadfield brought the game level before Brett Kemp scored the game-winner late in regulation. Kevin McKernan’s empty-net goal solidified the 4-2 win, the same score line that Greenville lost to the Stingrays by in the season opener the week prior.
FIRST OF MANY:
Rookies Brett Kemp and Bobby Russell each earned their first career goals during Saturday’s victory over the Stingrays. Both Kevin McKernan and Karch Bachman tallied their first goal of the season since returning for a second campaign in Greenville.
TICK, TICK, BOOM:
Brett Kemp has made a name for himself in Greenville after just three games by becoming the early leader in points. Through the first trio of games, Kemp has put up a pair of assists and the game-winner against the Stingrays.
RUBBER MATCH:
Wednesday’s game is the third meeting between the Stingrays and the Swamp Rabbits this season, and comes as an early-season momentum swing for the eventual victor. Through the first two games, the teams have combined for 12 total goals with the winning side netting 4 in each contest. Hunter Shepard, who has since been recalled by AHL Hershey, earned the opening win for South Carolina, while Jacob Ingham recorded the victory in the reverse fixture.
LIGHT LOAD:
The Wednesday night meeting with the Stingrays is one of only two games on the Greenville schedule for a 7-day window. After the conclusion of the game in North Charleston, the Swamp Rabbits will travel to Gas South Arena on Sunday to take on the Atlanta Gladiators for the first time this season. After that, the Swamp Rabbits will return home for a 3-in-3 against Jacksonville and Florida that weekend.
