OH HEY, YOU AGAIN?:
The Swamp Rabbits met with in-state rival the South Carolina Stingrays on last Saturday, October 23, at the North Charleston Coliseum in the season opener for both sides. A first period shorthanded goal by the Stingrays forced the Swamp Rabbits to rebound with the first goal of their young season from newcomer Ben Freeman. Freeman’s equalizer was short-lived as South Carolina quickly regained the lead in the second. After a third Stingray’s goal, Greenville responded with a Dallas Gerads tip-in from a 6-on-5 situation with the goaltender pulled. An empty-net goal from South Carolina would seal a 4-2 Stingrays victory.
SPOILED START:
The Swamp Rabbits home opener was spoiled by the Jacksonville Icemen in last night’s game, as the visitors held off a desperate attempt at a tying goal to win 2-1 in front of 3842 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Alec Rauhauser’s powerplay goal would tie the game in the second period before being answered by the Icemen later in the frame.
PLEASE, ALLOW ME:
Two Rabbits rookies, Brett Kemp and Gavin Gould continue to impress through two games of their professional careers. Both forwards have recorded back-to-back games with an assist and currently lead Greenville in points.
DOWN AND BACK:
Saturday’s game between the Swamp Rabbits and the Stingrays is the second meeting of the season between the two sides and the second of three matchups within the first four games for Greenville. The Swamp Rabbits will return to the North Charleston Coliseum on November 3, 2021 in what could be a decisive game in this early-season min-series, depending on Saturday’s outcome.
