PRO HOCKEY RETURNED IN LONE PRESEASON TILT

GREENVILLE, S.C.   The Greenville Swamp Rabbits dropped a 6-3 decision on Saturday night in their lone preseason meeting against the South Carolina Stingrays at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Mike McNamee, Kamerin Nault and Matthew Wedman scored for the Swamp Rabbits.

Dan DeSalvo scored the game’s first two goals at 35 seconds of the first period and 3:08 of the second frame for South Carolina. DeSalvo’s second tally came shorthanded on a curl and drag move from the right faceoff circle.

Only 51 seconds later, Mike McNamee scored on the power play for Greenville to pull within 2-1. Sam Jardine found McNamee with a crisp pass across to the right circle, and McNamee snapped a wrist shot past Stingrays netminder Alex Dubeau.

Cameron Askew regained South Carolina’s two-goal advantage at 9:43 of the second period, and Cole Ully tallied a 5-on-3 power play goal to open a 4-1 margin at 18:06. In the final frame, Kamerin Nault buried a backdoor feed from Jardine to pull the Rabbits within 4-2 at 12:08. Ully answered with his second goal of the night, and Mark Cooper registered from the low-slot on a centering feed from Mason Morelli at 19:07.

Matthew Wedman completed the scoring line at 19:23 to round out a 6-3 final. Shots on goal finished at 32-25 in favor of Greenville. Ryan Bednard started in goal for the Swamp Rabbits and split the net with Jacob Ingham.
