GREENVILLE, S.C. — Forward Karl El-Mir has re-signed with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for the upcoming 2020–21 season. The native of Montréal, Quebec, had an impressive rookie season, split between the Indy Fuel and the Swamp Rabbits."Right away I fell in love with the city. I see the potential in Greenville. Everything surrounding the hockey side is amazing," El-Mir said. "We are going to attract some really good players, and with the addition of Lordo, it is going to be a great combination. I'm excited to play this season and I think we can be contenders."El-Mir was acquired by the Swamp Rabbits on January 27, 2020 as part of a future considerations package, and kept consistently producing points. He scored 9 points in 17 games with the Fuel, and 10 points in 17 games with the Swamp Rabbits before having his season ended due to an upper-body injury. He made his pro debut with the Providence Bruins (AHL) after his senior year at the University of Connecticut."Karl is a good all-around player with some real offensive upside," said head coach Andrew Lord. "He plays the right way, goes to the dirty areas, and is not afraid of the corners and often getting to the netfront. He has a good overall skillset and is a character guy for our locker room. We're excited to have him back."El-Mir took a massive jump in his development in his senior year at UConn. His career-high 27 points earned him Hockey East Third Team All-Star consideration. That total was also second-best on the Huskies. As alternate captain of the Selects Academy U18 AAA club, he led the way to a championship as league MVP, and the league's top scorer. El-Mir split his junior hockey between the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the BCHL, and the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL.
